Hagai, the volunteer food delivery app that is being used in Cape Town, was brought to South Africa by the South African Zionist Federation (Cape Council).  The app was created by Israeli Noam Honig and facilitates the delivering of food parcels and other goods from food banks to those in need. The connection with Noam was made through the SAZF Partnership2Gether programme.

In South Africa, Jewish Community Services and Cape Jewish Seniors are two of the organisations that are using the app to help distribute food parcels to families in the Jewish community. It is Noam’s goal that the service will be available all over the world in Jewish communities to make food distribution easier. In Israel, it has reduced delivery time by two-thirds of the time it once took.

What makes this venture even more impressive is that Noam developed it in his ‘free time.’ He is also the founder and CEO of Firefly Migration, a 15-year-old company that migrates applications written in a legacy technology called ‘Magic’ to the modern ‘.net’ platform and which operates all over the world.

The SAZF Cape Council is thrilled at how successful and beneficial this app has been and is committed to strengthening the ties between Israel and our local community.
