It is with profound sorrow and outrage that the South African Zionist Federation (SAZF) mourns the heinous murder of six Israeli hostages: Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alexander Lobanov, and Ori Danino. These innocent lives were brutally cut short by Hamas terrorists in the tunnels of Rafah.

Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims during this unimaginably difficult time. The pain and anguish they must be experiencing is beyond words. We stand in solidarity with them and with all of Israel as they grapple with this devastating news.

This brutal act serves as a stark reminder of the cruel and inhumane nature of Hamas, an internationally-designated organisation that shows no regard for human life or international law.

We call upon the international community to unequivocally condemn this barbaric war crime. The world must not remain silent in the face of such atrocities.

To the people of Israel: South African Jewry shares in your grief and stand with you in these dark times. May the memory of Hersh, Eden, Carmel, Almog, Alexander, and Ori be a blessing, and may their families and Am Yisrael find strength and comfort in the days ahead.

The SAZF reaffirms its unwavering support for Israel’s right to defend its citizens, defeat Hamas, and secure the release of all remaining hostages.
